Walking seminar infrastructural routes and Istria

Walking seminar infrastructural routes and Istria

From 7-9 May 2024 researchers of the Route Biographies project as well as several researchers from the Heritage on the Margins program walked/drove along selected sections of Drugi tir construction sites, we visited Risiera di San Sabba and the old port in Trieste and concluded our walk in Koper where we walking through the city as well as in the Port of Koper.

This walking seminar was part of the project’s working package Infrastructure, focused on questions such as how these (transport) routes contribute to an understanding of Istria and how they relate/create borders – e.g. trade corridor projects, highways leading towards central Europe; maritime transport routes passing through Istrian ports and logistics behind it, telecommunication routes. Strategies between three national states (Slovenia, Croatia, and Italy), as well as foreign investments (e.g. from China), were of key importance in our evening workshops as we were striving to understand infrastructures and logistics related to Istrian ports (Koper, Trieste, Pula, Rijeka) in historical and contemporary perspective.
