An October Walking Seminar along the Obsotelje Region

In mid-October, members of the “Heritage on the Margins” research group participated in a hodinar (walking seminar), which this time took place in the border region of Obsotelje. The purpose of the two-day walking seminar was to familiarize group members with the heritage and the processes of heritagisation in the area, with an emphasis on comparing two micro-regions across two countries. The research question for this seminar was: “The Sotla River – a river that connects or divides?”

On the first day, we visited the ruins of the former political school and cultural centre in Kumrovec and compared two open-air museums: the Staro Selo Museum featuring Tito’s birthplace in Kumrovec and the Rogatec Open-Air Museum. Towards evening, we stopped at the ruins of Mali Tabor Castle and stayed overnight at Humska Klet, where we conducted two workshops. On the second day, we returned to Slovenia to visit the Lujznhof homestead and hiked through the Boč forests with local guide Jože Rak. The concluding workshop was held in Šmarje pri Jelšah.
