Mountain farming in Bohinj

Mountain farming in Bohinj

On 13 November 2024, the presentation of Anka Novak’s monograph Planšarstvo v Bohinju: Vse svoje življenje sem pustil v siru« [Mountain Farming in Bohinj: “I left all my life in cheese”] took place at the Bookstore Caffe Maks. The monograph is the result of years of research by Anka Novak, the retired curator of the Gorenjska Museum, and provides a comprehensive overview of mountain farming and the life and culture associated with seasonal grazing in Bohinj (Slovenia) from the earliest (known) sources to the end of the 20th century. In a conversation with the editor Saša Roškar and Tatjana Dolžan Eržen, co-author, successor to Anka Novak and this year’s Matija Murko Award winner, we focused on the mountain economy and way of life in the Bohinj mountains and its decline in the 20th century and the accompanying musealization and heritagization. The discussion was moderated by Špela Ledinek Lozej.
