Anton Vratuša, Slovenian politician, diplomat, publicist, NOB fighter and linguist, was born on 21 February 1915 in the village of Dolnji Slaveči and died on 30 July 2017 in Ljubljana. In his cosmopolitan thinking and actions, Vratuša demonstrated above all his love for his nation. In his early years, he was interested in general linguistic issues, but he soon focussed on the linguistic situation in Prekmurje and Porabje. Later, he mainly dealt with the topic of Slovenes in neighbouring countries; between 1988 and 2002 he was chairman of the Committee for the Study of National Minorities at the SAZU. His social commitment extends to the period and area of the Yugoslav, Slovenian and international pre-war, interwar and post-war periods.
