New Doctoral Programme Module on Heritage

New Doctoral Programme Module on Heritage

We are pleased to announce that the research work of the programme group Heritage on the Margins: New Perspectives on Heritage and Identity Within and Beyond the National is now also expanding into the pedagogical sphere. Together with colleagues from the Institute of Ethnomusicology ZRC SAZU, the Institute of Slovenian Ethnology ZRC SAZU, the Institute of Musicology ZRC SAZU, and the Slovenian Migration Institute ZRC SAZU, we have developed a new module entitled Heritages and Heritage Processes from a Critical Perspective within the doctoral study programme Comparative Studies of Ideas and Cultures.

The module Heritages and Heritage Processes from a Critical Perspective approaches the broad field of heritage through the conceptually and theoretically rich framework of critical heritage studies, which understands heritage not in essentialist terms, but rather as a process co-created by a variety of actors. Instead of viewing heritage as a fixed and unchanging set of traditions, the module examines the ways in which heritage is constituted, institutionalised, and mobilised in different contexts. The programme is therefore particularly suited to anyone wishing to explore heritage beyond its taken-for-granted meanings.

You are warmly invited to attend the open day on 15 May 2026 from 4 p.m. onwards at Novi trg 2, Ljubljana, or online, and to apply by 4 September 2026!
