New Issue of Glasnik SED

In July 2026, the first issue of this year’s Glasnik Slovenskega etnološkega društva (66/1) was published. The issue features a reflection marking the 50th anniversary of the Slovene Ethnological Society, a selection of research articles addressing questions of music and culture (several with a particular focus on the social position of Roma communities) as well as the journal’s Visual Essay section.

Among the contributors are two members of the research programme group, Špela Ledinek Lozej and Eva Fekonja. Špela Ledinek Lozej contributed a report on the Episkop programme, developed for the GO! 2025 European Capital of Culture in Nova Gorica and Gorizia by researchers from the Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (ZRC SAZU), in collaboration with researchers, writers, artists, activists, practitioners and theorists from the Gorizia region and beyond. The year-long programme consisted of twelve monthly thematic strands and forty-five weekly events, addressing key issues concerning the cross-border urban area of Nova Gorica and Gorizia, as well as the wider region between the south-eastern Alps and the northern Adriatic.

Eva Fekonja contributed an original research article presenting findings from her doctoral research. Her article focuses on the affective and embodied attitudes toward folk song in two Slovenian urban ethno choirs, which “presence” the past through the singing of “Balkan” music. Drawing on ethnographic material, it analyses how feelings of belonging and “authenticity” emerge through voice, body,
and affect. Furthermore, the article reveals the entanglement of affect and political ideology in experiences of (ethno)music, in processes of past presencing, and in specific ideologies of voice.
