To commemorate the 90th anniversary of the birth of Dr. Tone Cevec, a photography exhibition about the Ukve/Ugovizza alpine pastures will be held in the Atrium of ZRC SAZU between 31 May and 16 June 2022. In 1979, Dr. Tone Cevc (1932–2007), ethnologist, and researcher at the Institute of Slovene Ethnology of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences since 1971, invited photographer France Stele to work on a project entitled Architectural Tradition of Shepherds, Woodsmen and Charcoal Burners in Slovenia. They continued to collaborate, first by documenting life in the alpine pastures and later in uncovering past settlements of the mountainous world. They visited the Ukve/Ugovizza alpine pastures in the autumn of 1980 and summer of 1981. The photographs, taken in black and white, show images of a past life when, during the summer, all the inhabitants of the village moved their dairy cattle to the mountain huts beneath the peaks of the eastern Carnic Alps.
